Big Man
During basketball practice one night I was talking to a sports writer and I was lamenting my need for a big man who could play center. As we watched the warm up drills he looked over at the bench and saw a tall player sitting on the bench and he asked--Why is that tall boy sitting on the bench and not practicing?--I replied I told him to practice the things he did in the games. SO HE WENT TO THE BENCH AND SAT DOWN.
My high school basketball team was so short...
that when the high school drama department decided that this years production would be "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs" I lost seven players.
Defense
One of my high school basketball players was a better than average offensive
player but he could not play defense. I kept him after practice and wosrked with him on one on one drills and explained the proper stance and gave him a lot of tips that he could work on. Then I told him that it would be helpful if he practiced his defensive stance in front of a mirror. At practice after the weekend I asked him if he tried the drill in front of the mirror and he said yes
and he had lost 21 to 14.

He's batting .122
Just across the street from my back yard is a Major League spring training camp and this day three very young Latin Rookies were walking up the road between my back yard and the baseball fields. I was in the back yard with my four young kids. As the rookies were going by one was carrying a bat and pounding the ground and swearing loudly. I yelled at him to "Knock It Off" He replied " Ju Talking To Me" and I said yes I have four young kids here. He came back with "Ju Telling Me To Shut Up." I said yes and he started stowards me with the bat but one of his friends yelled out DON'T WORRY MEISTER HE ONLY BATTING 122. That started us all laughing and diffused the problem and the fact that I could speak Spanish was a big help.
PS I spent a lot of time with them teaching them how to read menu's. All they had been eating for days was Hamon and Eggs.

Officials have better hearing than eyesight.
In a recent basketball game I took offense to a call an official made and I yelled out "that was a hell of a call" he became unhappy and called a trchnical foul on me. I asked what that was for and he said "for your language" to which I replied "at least your hearing is a hell of a lot better than your eyesight" That brought on the second techinal so I was out of there. As I walked across the court to the locker room I made one last comment I told the official that he couldn't sign the scorebook it wasn't in BRAIL Looks like I will sit out the next game.
